"Foreigners Being Refused a Visa Extension" in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing denial of extension of certain visas for foreigners here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Visa Extensions for sick foreigners are now tougher to obtain. Quoting directly and I urge those who are watching this video to go check out that article in detail because there is a lot of good information in there. I am going to quote a small excerpt but the thrust of this article and the insights in there are really worth checking out. Quoting directly: "There are numerous reports, from Pattaya and Phuket in particular, of foreigners being refused of these extension on medical grounds unless they have copious proof of being a hospital inpatient as opposed to a casual outpatient."
So, what's going on here? If you read that article, you are going to see and they are talking about a specific Visa category in this article; they are talking about Medical Visas primarily or extensions based on exigent medical need if you want to look at it like that. But they are talking about that kind of specifically but this is kind of a variation on a theme very much in a way there is something bigger going on here as we have discussed. We have come off of the Emergency Decree which allowed Immigration Officers a great deal of discretionary flexibility regarding Thai Visas and we have come off of that back into sort of status quo ante insofar as we are now back to the Immigration system as it was in basically quarter one of 2020. Couple that with the fact that now effectively as the Deputy National Police Chief "Big Joke", Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn has made it clear that he has some interest in dealing with Thai Immigration matters and this is shaking up a lot within the Thai Immigration system. As we stated in prior videos this was something to keep an eye on and I think we are now starting to see some of the outward manifestations of these major fundamental changes they are happening within Thai Immigration. One example of this is the fact that apparently Visa Extension applications are being denied for certain foreigners here in Thailand on medical grounds and again I think this is just the upshot of more scrutiny and again this implementation of a law enforcement kind of paradigm associated with Thai Immigration. That being said, everything remains in flux will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
