Foreigners Should Worry About "Acres of Diamonds" Not Bales of Work Permit and Visa Paperwork?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Acres of Diamonds and Bales of Paperwork. What are we talking about here? Well I was actually sitting in an Immigration office and then I had to deal with some labour stuff here in the past few days. Frankly I became Thai some years ago, so I don't, my staff deals with a lot of office stuff - in-office, at various bureaucracies. It used to be a yearly tradition I had to go deal with my own Work Permit, deal with my own Visa once a year as every foreigner does that lives and works in Thailand. And I was sitting there, and you can see in the thumbnail was a photo I took of these bales of paperwork. Years ago, I actually was privy to seeing a storage room at Immigration where it was like a big old storage room and it was literally filled with bales upon bales of Immigration paperwork. I believe they used a forklift to move them around on pallets. And someone told me at the time that that is why they have rules about you can only renew your Visa within like a month period of time from its expiration date because they move the pallets out month to month for the next tranche if you will of possible folks that are going to come in to renew their visa paperwork. So again, I mean paperwork is a big deal within the Thai bureaucracy.

But the point of this video is I was thinking while I was sitting there you know just bails of paperwork, I thought of, it was like a motivational speech years ago - I can't remember the guy who did it - but it was called "Acres of Diamonds" and the thinking was it was like a motivational speech of how you will end up doing better in business and have success in life if you think in terms of Acres of Diamonds.

But I started thinking to myself, the big service we provide here in our firm for foreigners is worrying about the Acres of Diamonds rather than worrying about the Bales of Paperwork. Our problem is dealing with the Bales of Paperwork. We deal with that. We churn out more paper, I don't know, we churn out a ton of paper on behalf of clients to assist them with their corporate endeavours, with their Work Permits, with their Business Visas. It's a lot of paperwork that we churn out every month and every year. In the aggregate every year it is staggering actually. That said, that's our job, that's what we do, and we do that so that our clients can worry about doing their job, whatever that is, and making their money and doing their business rather than sitting around having to worry about the intricacies and Byzantine nature of a Business Visa application.

So the thing to take away from this video and understand is if you are looking to come to Thailand to do business to operate here professionally, it is a good idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
