"Fourteen Chinese Nationals Arrested" for Entering Thailand Illegally?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well we are discussing a number of Chinese Nationals who have entered, apparently entered Thailand illegally and are being processed for deportation it appears.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Chinese call-centre scammers arrested for illegal entry. "Fourteen Chinese Nationals suspected of involvement in call-center scams in Cambodia have been arrested at a hotel in Nonthaburi after entering Thailand illegally. They were taken into custody by officers from Provincial Police Region 1 and Nonthaburi Immigration at a hotel on Ngam Wongwan soi 19 in Tambon Bang Khen of Muang district, on Monday afternoon. The arresting officers also impounded 52 mobile phones and a number of SIM cards found in their possession, Police Maj Gen Worachart Saenkham, Investigation Commander of Police Region 1, said." Quoting further: "Following interrogation, the suspects were all initially charged with illegal entry, then handed over to investigators at Rattanathibet Police Station for further legal action. The clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops along the border late last year reportedly prompted many Chinese call-centre scam gangs operating in Cambodia to flee the country. Some reportedly crossed illegally into Thailand, led by guides along natural pathways, as they attempted to relocate to a third country."
I urge those who are watching this video, if you are interested in these developments, I urge you to go check out that article in the Bangkok Post. As they note in there, apparently these folks managed to just cross over the border and then they like called a ride hailing, they just basically called an Uber, called a Grab and used a Grab to get all the way down to Nonthaburi and then they rented 7 rooms and apparently 14 of them were all staying in there. One, I don't think anybody would disagree that these folks were resourceful, but what this video really is being made to show if nothing else is look, Thai Immigration Police are not messing around anymore with this stuff. They also have digital tools on hand now that they did not have in the past. Now in this situation it looks to me like, and again you can read the article for your own edification, but it looks to me like locals basically saw over a dozen foreigners, folks again in this case from China, here in Thailand that just all popped up in one place all at once, and they thought that was odd it sounded like, so they said something and upon investigation, yeah lo and behold, there was something going on there.
That said, again the point of the video is however you think you can outsmart Thai Immigration, you're probably not going to do so, and you are probably going to get yourself into more of a problem than you were in before. Now that said, I don't know what these people have been through and I have to imagine things up along the Cambodian-Thai border, especially on the other side of the Border, is probably a lot less than optimal. So I don't wish any ill will on these folks, but that said if they entered illegally en masse that's a problem and Thailand has to deal with that. I expect these folks will probably be deported. Interestingly enough will be the question on whether or not they will be blacklisted; I get into that in another video I made contemporaneously with this one. But that said, we will certainly be keeping folks updated on this situation as and when it evolves.
