A Free Trade Agreement "Between Thailand And The European Union"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing a Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Kingdom of Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that's pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Visa-free travel for Thais to Europe still faces an uphill battle. As per usual I urge those who are watching this video, go check out that article in detail because there's a lot going on in there, and the thrust of this video is not exactly in line with the overall theme if you will of that article.
That being said, quoting directly: "A 2024 Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and the European Union is on the cards. It makes good sense by benefitting businesses, services and the supply chain. According to David Daly, EU Ambassador to Thailand, bilateral trade has mushroomed to nearly 1 billion Euros (nearly 40 billion Baht) on a regular weekly basis. A comprehensive partnership and cooperation agreement will also cover intellectual property, government procurement and e-commerce." All of those things are laudable and I certainly am always going to be in favour of more trade for Thailand. One thing I would hope is that if a Free Trade Agreement does get promulgated, Thai Authorities make sure to again constantly be worrying about protecting the local labour market, local industry here in Thailand and the local economy which I'm sure that they will keep that in mind if and when they go through the drafting process of some sort of Free Trade Agreement.
But yeah, long story short, I think this is nothing but good news at the end of the day because more business for Thailand means, sort of a "rising tide raises all ships" kind of mentality; more trade, better for everybody.
