"Government 'Mulls' an End of Thai Pass as Tourism Sector Burns"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, well actually the title of this video came from a viewer I believe, someone who was in correspondence with us sent through an email with what I am going to quote here and actually the subject line of their email is basically the title of this video. That's why I titled it this way. But sent us this Bangkok Post link and I went to the article and read it. I urge those who are watching this video, read it as well. The title of the article is: Government mulls ending Thai Pass, again bangkokpost.com. Quoting directly: "The Ministry of Public Health has given a loose time frame for when it will decide upon dropping the Thailand Pass for foreigners. To make its decision, the Ministry needs more solid information about infected cases coming from foreign entry to reach a conclusion, Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said on Friday at an event organized by Chulalongkorn Alumni Associations and their partners."

Okay, my big question is really? 2 years and almost 3 months on; what will that be? 25, no 27 months on down the road we need more solid information about infected cases coming from foreign entry to reach a conclusion? 2 years and 3 months in, really? We don't have enough data at this point? Okay!

That being said, for those who are unaware, Thailand Pass remains a requirement associated with coming into Thailand at present. There has been a lot of talk about getting rid of it. It seems to go back and forth. I know the Tourism Sector and a number of the sectors associated with entertainment, business sectors here in Thailand are very keen and eager to see Thailand Pass sort of shelved. I personally think it would be good thing for the Tourism Sector here. I don't think it is exactly fair the title of this video or the title that I sort of adopted for this video based on what was sent to me. I think the Government is trying, I do truly believe that. I think they are trying to do what's best and I think that they are trying to use all the information at hand to make that decision. I also think there is always a certain level in bureaucracies of reticence to really make a move for fear of sort of being blamed for any blowback associated with that move.

But that being said, again 27 months on, it is pretty hard for me to say that we don't have enough data. We know pretty well what this thing is and what it does. Folks have been treated for it and I think it is time we can truly, well and truly move on, but I do understand folks out there are trying to sort of strike a balance between the interest here. However, all things considered it is probably time to just, my opinion, it is probably time to put this behind us.
