Heightened Scrutiny Of Thailand Elite Visa Applicants?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing heightened scrutiny associated with the Thailand Elite Visa. It seems like there are a lot of shake-ups that are kind of percolating up to the surface from the background in an Immigration context here in Thailand. I have done a number of videos on these topics in the past few days and I think people are starting to see, it looks like we may be seeing maybe a shift possibly coming in the Immigration space maybe over the course of the next year. Again these videos are not meant to panic people; things have not changed yet but we are dealing with them as they come.
So again, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Mega changes ahead for Thailand's Elite Visa. Quoting directly, and I urge those who are watching this video, maybe go and check out that article in its entirety; there is a lot of good information in there. I am going to quote a small excerpt. Quoting directly: "Scrutiny of application details will almost certainly be intensified." Now we are talking about Thailand Elite Visa specifically here. Quoting further: "Currently files are checked against the Thai Immigration database and information held by Thai Embassies abroad. This referral might be extended to Interpol after it was found necessary to cancel some Elite members who were involved in "gray" businesses or fraudulent or criminal international activity." Yeah I suspect that is not outside the realm of possibility. I can see a scenario unfold wherein we do in fact see heightened scrutiny associated with the Thailand Elite Visa because of the amount of lawful status the Thailand Elite Visa can confer. Basically, okay it is sort of in one year intervals but once issued, the Visa has a sticker validity of 5 years at a time. Now if you are in the program for say 20 years, over time you will get new stickers added to your passport. But again, the amount of time granted by this Visa is one of the reasons in my opinion they are probably heightening the scrutiny. In fact; when we started dealing with these visas that was no background check. Then they added the background check, that started seeing problems for some folks. Now they may be adding an Interpol check which I think is if they are even talking about it, to my mind seems at least somewhat probable. That may be another issue for folks that may have an international criminal past, criminal history, those kinds of problems. So again, difficult to foresee exactly how this plays out but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
