How Many Thai Tourist Visas Can I Get?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Tourist Visas here in the Kingdom of Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "Hey Ben, I have a question. How many can times, I think it was how many times can you apply for a 60 days Tourist Visa from a Thai Embassy abroad? Thank you for the help." Well as many times as they will let you basically, it is going to be very much at their discretion. Now the underlying question I think to this question, if I am sort of reading between the lines a little bit is, "how long can I stay in Thailand on Tourist Visa status?" The short answer to that is they don't want you living here in Tourist Visa status. That is the rule of thumb and you know if you are basically living here or not, and they know when you are basically living here or not; they can see from your status. So I would not make any presumptions; I definitely would make no presumptions past two Tourist Visas in a given calendar year. I just don't see that as being overly feasible.
Now again I am sure I am going to get a bunch of people in the comments: "Oh but my dad's brother's grandfather's dog's sister got six Tourist Visas all right in a row!" Maybe, that's possible. Again, there is a discretionary element to all of this but at the end of the day where I have seen the most stringent crackdowns, the crackdowns within Immigration that in my mind have caused the biggest problems for people's lives is where they began presuming that they are just going to get this endless sufferance in terms of endless status, Tourist Visa whatever you want to call it, exemption status, without any scrutiny and 'they are just going to keep letting me run Border Runs, or let me do a Visa Run’ which in my mind there is two different things - a Border Run and a Visa Run, running to a border, hopping over and then hopping back in is very different than having to go to an actual Embassy, get a visa and come back. That said, there is going to be a limit and it is somewhere over two I would say. In theory it could be over one but as a practical matter I think you can probably get two Tourist Visas in a given year. That said, that is not even a foregone conclusion. On top of that, you have got to be really careful about being perceived as using a Tourist Visa to live in the Kingdom of Thailand.
