So one of the conveniences especially down in Phuket for folks that have to deal with Immigration has always been this drive-thru service and apparently that's closing. I thought of making this video after getting a recent article from the Phuket News, that's thephuketnews.com, article is titled: Phuket Immigration Drive-Thru to close pending 'renovations'. Phuket Immigration will close its Drive-Thru service, with Friday (Feb 13) the final day of operation, and no confirmed date for reopening while "renovation" works are carried out. Quoting directly: "In a notice posted on the Phuket Immigration Facebook page, officials confirm that from February 14 foreign nationals will no longer be able to submit 90-day reports via the Drive-Thru facility. Foreign nationals are instead advised to report online via the Phuket Immigration website, or in person inside the Phuket Immigration Office, or the Patong Immigration Office or Blue Tree Immigration Office. Phuket Immigration Chief Pol. Col. Khemchart Wattanapakasem could not be reached for comment. However, Immigration Inspector and Secretary to the Chief Pol. Lieutenant Col. Laddawan Waenkaew said the closure is linked to improvement works aimed at easing traffic congestion in front of the immigration checkpoint and upgrading new service facilities. Phuket Immigration said it will announce any updates on the drive-through service once further information becomes available. 

And I urge those who are watching this video, go check out The Phuket News for that article. There is further information in there. But long story short, yeah, they are shutting down the Drive-Thru Immigration facilities at Phuket Immigration and there doesn't seem to be much of any plan to reopen them, and I kind of doubt that it will, or might not any time in the particularly near future. Again, this primarily pertains to 90-day reporting but it really was - I've talked to a lot of folks that preferred using drive-thru services for immigration where possible - and I'm sure they will lament the loss of this after basically Valentine's Day. It felt like, I might even, no, I won't do a thumbnail but from the movie Ghostbusters 2 where the date of the end of the world would be February 14th. He says, "Valentine's Day. Bummer." This drive-thru facility is closing down on Valentine's Day is kind of a bummer.

Yeah look, not much else to say, I think folks that like using this are probably going to be disappointed in the future. That said, it may reopen and we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
