Living Part-Time in Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing living abroad, part-time here in Thailand. Why am I bringing this up? Well this is a topic, these type of expats used to be far more common than they even are now post-COVID, post-pandemic, actually let's be clear, post-lockdown.
Prior to this, I would talk to guys, mostly men and it would be most of them were 3 months on here, 3 months off; some of those folks worked offshore. A lot of them would often times live in for example the United States, they would live somewhere in the US and they would do half their time here, be it 6 months or maybe they would come over for 90 days and then they would go back and then they would spend a quarter back in the US and then they would spend a quarter here in Thailand. Again during the lockdown, that was virtually impossible to get done because you just couldn't get in and out of Thailand effectively. But now in the aftermath of that, yeah this definitely is something that is frequent. It occurs, there are many expats here in Thailand, foreign folks that don't live in Thailand all the time, all year round, but they come here and stay for a prolonged period and then leave and return. Definitely possible.
Now one thing that is pretty advisable just sort of in a general sense. If you are going to end up doing that over the long term, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and hook yourself up with a Non-Immigrant Visa of some sort, so be it a Business Visa if you are doing work in and out of the region or here in the country from time to time, or for example a Retirement Visa. I know a lot of retirees who do half time here in Thailand, half time for example back in the US, back in Europe, back in the UK, elsewhere too, South America wherever, they decide to go ahead and get a Retirement Visa and then use that Retirement Visa sort of on a part-time basis. So those who are looking to live here on a half-time basis, it is probably the best idea, the first step, is to start looking into the various Visa options for undertaking that kind of physical presence here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
