Long Term Thai Visas for Foreign "Specialists"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Long-Term Resident Visas, so-called. As we have discussed in other videos, there is not a residency component to these Visas. In a very real sense they are sort of long-term Non-Immigrant Visas.
That said, they are being brought online; it is relatively new; it is trying to attract in so-called high net worth foreigners, "wealthy individuals" these kind of folks and we have yet to actually see this rolled out. We don't know what the regulatory structure looks like on this so stay tuned. All of this to one degree or another is a bit of an exercise in speculation. What we do have a pretty good idea of is there are going to be sort of these four categories bifurcated into two sub-categories. One step category is Working foreigners and Specialists and again quoting directly from a recent article in the Thaiger, that is thethaiger.com, the article is titled: Who is eligible for a 50,000 Baht 10 year LTR Visa in Thailand? The fine print. Quoting directly:
"Groups 3 & 4: Working Foreigners and Specialists
- Must show an employment contract or service contract with a domestic or a foreign business.
- Must provide proof of 5 years of work experience in the relevant industry conducted within 10 years of the application date.
- EXCEPTIONS: those who work in the following are NOT required to provide evidence of work experience." (And to be clear, I think these exceptions apply more to specialists then they do more to the so-called working foreigners. That is just my speculation based on what I am seeing right now.) Quoting further: "Government research institutions, higher education institutions, specialized training centers, government agencies and PHD graduates."
So yeah, there are a number of folks who may be eligible to get one of these LTR Visas. The details on this again we are not fully aware of as it has not fully been promulgated; is not been fully rolled out. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
