A Look At the Benefits of Thai Yellow House Books
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Yellow House Books here in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "What are the benefits beyond impressing the local bank? Could you expand on the Tabian Baan benefit please?" Yeah okay, first of all for those who do not know, a Tabian Baan or a House Registration Book comes in two forms: you can have the Blue Tabian Baan which is generally utilized by Thai Nationals or Permanent Residents here in the Kingdom, and then under the Civil Registration Act of 1991, they created what are called Yellow House Books or Yellow Tabian Baans. These are utilized by foreigners in Thailand.
Generally speaking we see these associated with foreign nationals who have bought condos in Thailand although that is not exclusively how they could be used; it is possible to be on a Yellow Tabian Baan and be in a house. For example, a lot of folks who have a Thai spouse that has a Blue Tabian Baan may have a Yellow Tabian Baan sort of concomitant with that blue one. Now understand the Chao Baan inside of a given location, inside of a given home will always defer to a Thai, so if you have a Yellow Tabian Baan with a Thai spouse and they have a Blue Tabian Baan, they are going to be the Chao Baan. If you are on one alone - that often happens with regard to condos - then you will be alone on your Tabian Baan and be considered a Chao Baan, the head of the house.
Now that said, what are the benefits? As I have said in many other videos, there are not a ton of major benefits associated with Yellow House books and I have been kind of burned in common saying "oh no there are a lot of benefits, you are under playing it." Then now sort of this comment kind of makes it sound like I am over playing the benefits of a Yellow House Book. It is what it is; it doesn't confer any Immigration benefits. Yes you can use a Yellow House Book as the basis for applying for a Pink ID card which again doesn't convey a lot of inherent benefits other than being used as an ID. I have found a Yellow House Book can be useful when dealing with things associated with like banking or maybe buying a car, things of this nature but again it does have rather limited usage and for this reason again it's not a document that is absolutely essential to maintain oneself when living here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
