A "Multi-Choice Questionnaire" For Thai Visa Extension?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the notion of a multiple-choice questionnaire or something associated with Thai Visa Extension. I actually thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on one of our prior videos where we were discussing Immigration matters and the fact that there are sort of impending crackdowns, higher scrutiny, heightened scrutiny if you will from Immigration on foreigners here in the Kingdom.

Again, I thought of making this after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "There is no test of moral character for Visa renewal as far as I am aware. I think upon renewal of extension of visas, applicants should be required to show they have an understanding of the penalties under Thai Law for certain offenses. This could be in the form of a multi-choice questionnaire or similar which could be completed online. It need only be basic but would hopefully lead to a reduction in some of the bad behaviour we are seeing and the arrogance."

Interesting take. I mean at the end of the day, I have got to be honest, I'm not ever really going to be for any addition of any further forms or anything associated with any bureaucracy, that's just kind of my default position, but I do kind of understand the sentiment in this commenter’s comment insofar as I walk sort of a weird line in my own head with regard to how I view Immigration matters and there are times where I very much think foreign nationals, foreign vis a vis whatever Immigration System, be it the US Immigration System, the Thai Immigration System, there are times when I think yeah, foreigners have a real point. This is like I really can't argue on a fundamental level with the notion that perhaps we could do something better than 90-day reporting in the context of Thai Immigration. I just, I think that is something that may be could be or in fact not may be, it definitely could be overhauled; there are better ways of doing that. I understand the reason for it; I understand the underlying policy behind it. I just think we really don't need to implement it the way that we are doing. There are things over time that that at the same time, I really see Immigration's point. It's like work authorization here in Thailand. Thailand is a nation that has had to take care of her own people. In certain ways you can view her as insular insofar as she definitely is a country that zealously guards the ability of her people to work in this jurisdiction. So on that one I don't see so much of an issue.

Do I at the end of the day think that there should be a questionnaire associated with all of these topics as some part of Immigration? No not really, again because of my default position that I don't want to add any more complications to an already rather Byzantine process. That said, I understand the reasoning of where a comment like that comes from.
