"Naked Antics" See Foreigner Arrested in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title and the thumbnail would suggest, apparently naked antics recently led to a foreigner being detained here in Thailand.

Before we get into this citation, real quick, I've had folks say to us, or say to me specifically, I really appreciate what you do. Is there anything we can do to support you even though we know you're not monetized and we don't need to avail ourselves of a law firm at this particular time. Well, as I have discussed in other videos, my better half and I set up a restaurant here in downtown Bangkok. The name of the place is Pancake Palace, as the name implies it is breakfast anytime and American Diner style food - we have a British breakfast as well - American Diner style food including hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chilli dogs, chilli bowls, buffalo wings, chicken wings. We have also got grilled cheese sandwiches, we've got tacos, we’ve got Coke in glass bottles, we have got adult beverages as well. If you are interested and you want to check us out, check out the links in the description below and come on by for a bite, we'd love to see you.

That said, let's jump into the naked antics of this foreigner. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Foreign woman detained after naked antics at Surin Beach. Quoting directly: "A naked foreign woman was detained by police after stealing a red no-swimming warning flag from Surin Beach and running into dangerous surf among large rocks while attempting to evade lifeguards yesterday morning (June 10), hours after allegedly going on a naked rampage in the same area on Tuesday night." Quoting further: "Videos of the beach incident, widely shared on social media, shows the woman grabbing a red warning flag erected by lifeguards" - I'm sorry for laughing but it's just wow, okay - "a red warning flag erupted by lifeguards and running into rough seas despite hazardous conditions." So it was like the naked female version of Patrick Swayze at the end of the movie Point Break I guess is what we are looking at here. That said, quoting further: "Lifeguards immediately intervened after seeing her enter the water in an area marked as unsafe for swimming due to strong waves and rocky shoreline conditions. As they attempted to bring her back to safety, the women ran between the beach, rocks and the sea, prompting a tense chase as lifeguards tried to prevent her from being swept away or injured."

Yeah, by the way, like the level of BS nonsense that standard rank-and-file Thais have to put up with out of some foreigners is truly staggering. I mean these guys were like just standard lifeguards; they have got to chase around some naked foreign chick who has picked up the lifeguard flag and is trying to run into the ocean, again a la Patrick Swayze, Bodhi at the end of Point Break. I mean wow. That is above and beyond what these guys were called in to do. That said, quoting further: "After several attempts, lifeguards succeeded in bringing her safely back to shore and contacted police to assist in controlling the situation. The incident followed reports that the same woman had caused chaos near Surin Beach on Tuesday night (June 9). Videos shared online showed the woman walking naked along Sri Soonthorn Rd in Cherng Talay while shouting and behaving erratically. According to witnesses, staff at a nearby massage shop and a foreign man attempted to cover her with towels, but she repeatedly removed them and continued acting aggressively. Residents alleged that the woman entered businesses, damaged vehicles, chased passersby and attempted to assault people, causing alarm among local residents and tourists."

Look, I have said before and I'll say it again. The Thais are getting tired of this stuff: these pranks, this inappropriate behaviour stuff and thinking that you get to act as an uncivilized brute in this place is going to lead to some bad outcomes. It's going to lead to a situation where you are going to find yourself either detained for a prolonged period of time, which I'm here to tell you, detention in Thai jails - I have seen the insides of Thai correctional facilities - not pleasant, or just full-on deportation and blacklisting. I have got to imagine that probably if Immigration Officials were looking at this in conjunction with their Police counterparts, there would probably be a pretty strong consensus of "hey, how about we just get rid of this person and we never have to deal with them again", because that's what we are going to see more and more of. I have been around Thailand a fairly long time. I know to a certain extent, at least in a, for lack of a better term, just sort of an institutional sense, how folks think, and when they see something like this, the easy answer is just "deport them, blacklist them forever; they're not coming back. We just never have to deal with that problem again." I think we're going to see more of that so the thing to take away from this video is one I don't think many people are thinking it's a good idea to run around naked on a rocky beach and steal safety flags from lifeguards to do that. But still, again, there's a paradigm shift within law enforcement. They are viewing this stuff much more along the lines of national security incidents and that is not a paradigm you want to be behaving badly in.

So the thing to take away from this video is if you are coming to Thailand, maybe it's a good idea not to run around naked on the beach trying to steal lifeguards’ equipment, and then on top of it, acting erratically and causing problems for people who are just trying to do business here. So again, it remains to be seen how all this stuff plays out, but we will certainly be keeping you updated over this summer as the situation evolves.
