A New Online TM30 System In Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the TM30; not a particularly favourite topic amongst the Expat Community here in Thailand. For those who are unaware, if you come into Thailand, there is actually an address reporting requirement. Now for tourists out there, do not worry about this a great deal because oftentimes this is going to be done automatically, especially at hotels, guest houses, places like that - most of the landlords are going to already have a system on hand, especially hotels - to go ahead and deal with TM30, it is just kind of an automatically done thing, don't worry about it.
Now expats who live in Thailand, this may be more of an issue depending on your situation, either renting or you own a place. Now a lot of landlords, folks that own their own homes, especially condos here in Thailand, I find that most of those folks are pretty on top of TM30. But folks that are kind of in and out more, I have found that yeah there seems to be a little bit more spottiness if you will regarding TM30 usage and understanding it. But basically again it's an address requirement actually, and this really wasn't brought up in earnest - about 5 years, 6 years ago we started really seeing TM30 sort of rolled out. I mean I remember when I was here as a foreigner, roughly the first 10 years I was here, I never much dealt with him TM30. 90-day reporting, yeah that would come up every 90 days and depending on if it applied to me, I may need to do it, but I don't remember TM30 from my time when I was here as a foreigner but yeah it has always actually been on the books and it's sort of been sort of re-required if you will these past 5 years but now we are just kind of dealing with it as a matter of course and apparently they are now rolling out a new online system.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Landlords, hotel managers urged to re-register for online TM30 reporting. Quoting further: "Immigration Offices throughout the country have urged real estate owners and managers to register in the new online system for notification of foreign tenants which replaced the old one starting September 15." So yes this has already occurred. For those watching this video, as of the time of this video, this has already been implemented, there is a new online system. Now it is still possible to go ahead and do this in person; there are folks that still prefer the analog approach. But moving forward yeah it looks like we are going to see a lot more folks likely doing this online and it remains to be seen how that is going to work. But hopefully, with a new system, we will see new efficiencies and hopefully folks will find this a more easy way of dealing with address reporting here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
