A New Thai Visa for "Rich Global Citizens"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the possibility of a new long-term Thai Visa category for "Rich Global Citizens". We have discussed this a little bit in other videos, specifically on 10-year visas.

A recent article from ASEAN NOW, that is aseannow.com, the article is titled: Thailand Proposes 10-Year Visas and Land Ownership for Foreigners Again. Quoting directly: "Rich Global Citizens would need to be able to prove income of at least $80,000 over the last 2 years and have 1 million dollars in assets. They would also need to be able to invest at least 16 million Baht in property or Government Bonds." One of the categories for this is Rich Global Citizens and that is the criteria associated with being a Rich Global Citizen that would allow one to go ahead and possibly obtain a 10-year Visa.

To just go back over this, and again this is all being proposed. It was already bandied about once and now we are seeing it discussed again. I think we are coming closer to this actually being promulgated as actual regulation although how that looks in practice remains to be seen and if it actually comes to be remains to be seen, so something to keep in mind. Again $80,000 over the last two years and have a million dollars in assets and they need to be able to invest at least 16 million Baht in property or Government bonds. And 16 million baht, that is about half a million dollars roughly; probably a little more depending on the exchange rate of the day.

So it does look like they are trying to expand Visa categories to provide longer term categories for Expats looking to spend time in Thailand. How exactly this plays out again in practice remains to be seen as we have yet to actually see regulations rolled out. We will continue to keep people updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
