Passports and Thai Visa Exemptions?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing dual passports and Thai Visa Exemptions. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "Serious question. If you have 2 passports, UK and NZ in my case, (so United Kingdom and New Zealand) can you effectively double the 120 day limit or will they see that as well?"
Yeah look folks, and we are talking about Thai Visa Exemption, look don't try to game the Thai Visa Exemption system, it does not end out well. For all the folks the travel bloggers and whatever out there that are 'oh yeah, you can just live in Thailand on a Tourist Visa', yeah have fun with that because it is great until it is not. I have been through three different waves, three different waves of crackdowns on that exact activity and quite honestly we are getting about due for one. I am not saying it is happening imminently; I am not putting any time frame on it but be prepared.
The other thing is during low season Thai Immigration is much more acutely aware of who is here. During tourism season, it is a little more lax because we are trying to get the volume of people in the country and it is kind of one of those, they say 'when the tide goes out, you can see who's not wearing a swimsuit' as they say. So when high season ends, it is sort of like the tide going out and now the Thais can see well who's really trying to live here at the end of the day and that is something to be extremely aware of.
Meanwhile, the thing to take away from this video is yeah if you have got two passports, two nationalities, you need to go ahead and be aware; it is not like the movies where you just like you get on the plane and then you come off and you use the other passport. No, all this stuff is locked in through passenger manifest; we have discussed on this channel before the PIBICS system, the APP system here in Thailand. Yeah two different nationalities is not necessarily going to do much good for you at the end of the day with regard to trying to sort of game the Thai Immigration system.
