Is Phuket Still on Track for Quarantine-Free Reopening July 1?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the prospect of Phuket being reopened for tourism on July 1. This has been a topic of a lot of consternation. A lot of folks have been asking asking about this and it has kind of gone back and forth. The so-called third wave here in Thailand has had an impact on policy regarding Immigration but apparently according to the Phuket News, that is the phuketnews.com, things are still on track for this reopening. The title of the article is: Anutin, Phiphat Arrive in Phuket, Assure July 1 Reopening. Quoting directly: PHUKET -  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul and Tourism and Sports Minister, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn in Phuket today May 15th delivered a message of support from Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha confirming that Phuket will open to fully vaccinated international tourists from July 1.

There is a lot in this article. I urge folks to go to the Phuket news to check that out in a little bit more detail. But yes it does appear that policy makers and this is the Minister of Public Health are serious as it seems about getting Phuket reopened July 1. They go into a lot of detail about how this is going to work. It is going to be mostly for vaccinated folks. This "Sandbox Program" presumes that vaccinations are going to be more widely available as we move towards July 1.

Exactly how this is going to play out remains to be seen. We will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation progresses.
