As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing retirement in Thailand and planning ahead. I did a video recently, actually contemporaneously with this one where we were discussing that passport processing specifically American passport processing is really, really slow now. It is weeks, it could be months, especially if you are getting a passport for the first time it can be months before that can be processed out. I bring this up because it goes to the issue brought up in this video which is planning ahead for Thai retirement, for retirement here in Thailand. 

If you don't have a passport for example and you are looking to come to Thailand to retire and you are looking to do that say in the next 6 months, you are going to want to go ahead and get that passport done now. In fact I saw a US Senator discussing this in a video online. That person was saying, "Hey you don't want to go ahead and book flights and things without getting your passport first. You need to plan ahead on that because you could have a flight booked that is not refundable and you don't have a passport, and therefore they are not going to let you on the plane if you don't have a passport to go to for example to Thailand." So that is one thing to plan ahead on.

Now there are some catch 22s as we have discussed before for example banking. It is one of those ‘chicken or the egg’; we won't let you get the bank account without a long-term Visa but you can't get a Long-term Visa without the bank account. We have solutions that we assist folks here in our office in cutting that Gordian knot, sort of putting to rest that sort of putting to rest that catch 22 feedback loop. There are methodologies for dealing with that. Again that is just one more example though of planning ahead for retirement is possibly contacting a legal professional, gaining some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
