As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the Special Tourist Visa yet again. 

This topic is coming up in the context of the quickly ending Amnesty I should say. We are seeing the end of the Amnesty at the end of this week as of the time of this video and I have gotten a lot of questions from folks asking me "hey, can I get a Special Tourist Visa, one of these Special Tourist Visas they have been talking about, can I get one of those issued in Thailand?" Well point of fact "no", it appears not. We have discussed this with contacts at Immigration as well as at Ministry Foreign Affairs and amongst our reading of research on the topic indicates that these Special Tourist Visas are exclusively being issued outside of Thailand. They are not being issued inside of Thailand.

The other thing is notwithstanding the fact that appears they are going to be issued sooner rather than later. For those who are currently looking at the horizon of Amnesty, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and presume that this is not going to be an avenue for you to go ahead and maintain your status here in Thailand because the Special Tourist Visa is set to come on line in October; Amnesty is ending here on the 26th of September. So as a practical matter know the Special Tourist Visa is not going to be overly useful for folks and from what we understand and let's be clear, this has not been brought online. So the nuances and details of it remain to be seen but based on the information we have received as of the time of this video, it appears clear to us that “No, Special Tourist Visas are only going to be issued outside of Thailand. It is not a Visa possibility for those who are currently physically present within the Kingdom.”
