Protocols for Thailand's New Digital Work Permit System?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing protocols for Thailand's new e-Work Permit system. As we have discussed in other videos, Thailand is rolling out this new digitized Work Permit system and as with anything digital, it is supposed to make things more efficient, less hassle and it does completely the opposite, or at least it's proving that thus far in the initial rollout.
I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thailand extends grace period for employers struggling with new e-WorkPermit system. Quoting directly: "Renewal of Work Permits: Employers whose foreign workers' permits expire by February 13, 2026, may continue renewing through the existing system until completion." Quoting further: "Employers who have not yet submitted renewal applications under the old system are required to apply through the new e-WorkPermit platform."
So, they are clearly pushing everybody over into this new e-WorkPermit System. Understand, for those who want to come to Thailand, especially foreigners looking to come and set up a small business and live and work, Work Permits are one component of many things. You need Company sponsorship for the Work Permit itself, company certification and documentation associated with Business Visa issuance, as well as tax documentation and other types of documentation if you are a foreigner looking to come here and work. This e-WorkPermit permit system as I discussed a moment ago, I've talked to our folks here in the office - the professionals who deal with both lawyers and tax folks etc. as well as Visa processors here in our office who deal with this system - and they are telling me man, this thing is not easy to deal with. It is buggy, it's not perfect. If they are having problems and they deal with this system constantly, it's what they do all day long, I can't imagine what the general public is dealing with regard to, especially the foreign public, with regard to trying to get their Work Permits and things sorted out.
For those who feel a bit overwhelmed by all of this, especially Business Visa application, company set up, Work Permit stuff, and tax issues having to do with Thailand, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
