Retiring, after Working, in Thailand?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing retirement in Thailand after having worked here in the Kingdom. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on our channel, quoting directly: "I would love to see a video on retirement in Thailand after working for a Thai Company for over 10 years. I read that in 2017, the Government implemented a retirement payout similar to government workers for private workers."

So yeah, I think what this person is talking about is what is called Social Security here in Thailand which yes there may be certain benefits associated with Social Security here in Thailand and for those purposes that is going to be really circumstantially dependent. It is going to be dependent on how long you worked in Thailand; the capacity in which you worked in Thailand, it's going to have a lot to do with analysis on whether or not one is eligible for any kind of Social Security benefits post retirement.

One comment I think is worth noting is that one of the for lack of a better term, most straightforward processes of getting into Retirement Visa status that we have found, especially when it comes to the issue of conversion - so moving from one visa to another - the most straightforward process I have ever seen honestly is going from a Business Visa to a Retirement Visa because when Immigration is looking at that they are sort of seeing, "Oh yeah this person worked here, they have been paying some taxes, now they are looking to retire here." It has just always been my experience that that is much more of a streamlined process than many of the other conversions that we sometimes have to deal with. Sometimes it's not even possible, people have to leave, come back in on retirement status. Again it is all going to be circumstantially dependent in the given case. So the thing to take away from this video is yes there may be certain Social Security benefits associated with having previously worked in Thailand but one thing to note is the conversion process from Business Visa status over to Retiree status in my opinion is much more streamlined than other types of conversions.
