Is a Standard Retirement Visa Better than DTV?

Transcript of the above video:

There has been a lot of talk recently about the so-called DTV or Destination Thailand Visa, a lot of talk and consternation amongst a lot of retirees as to whether or not maybe this is a better visa option for them. Then on top of it, we have had this major political shakeup here in Thailand with respect to the removal of the Prime Minister and now the Cabinet going into a sort of limbo caretaker period if you will and we're sort of seeing everything sort of go up in the air at the moment.

I think it is safe to say that what was happening up to the point at which the Prime Minister was removed in terms of policy and where things were moving, for lack of a better term, all bets are off now. We're in sort of a post-Srettha Administration situation; we don't exactly know what that's going to look like, and I think a lot of the initial hyperbole and fanfare and everything associated with the Destination Thailand Visa will ultimately prove to be probably premature I think when we start to see this thing play out practically. That said, just from a purely what we know now standpoint, what's better, Retirement Visa or the DTV?  Well if you are already a retiree and you are already in a Retirement Visa, your best bet is to just sit tight in my opinion, because presently we don't know exactly where all this is going to shake out. Meanwhile if you are prospective retiree looking to come to Thailand, again depending on your circumstances, DTV may be better than standard Retirement Visas. Again that is going to be driven by the underlying facts in a given case.

So those that are curious or are a bit overwhelmed about everything that's going on at the moment, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.

I'm going to do a quick bumper for a lot of these Immigration videos that we are going to be doing moving forward because there are a number of options that have come up here recently and unfortunately there has just been a lot of nonsensical talk throughout the ether of the internet as well as in even like the mainstream press; the print press has been talking a lot about Immigration and quite honestly, not all of the conclusions that they are drawing are correct. So the point of this bumper if you will, is for me to just kind of remind people, it is not a terrible idea to contact a legal professional who deals with Immigration on a regular basis because there are a number of options now available for foreigners looking to be in Thailand long- term. Some of them are going to be more optimal than others depending on your own circumstances.
