"Strict Measures" to Deter Foreign Criminals from Entering Thailand?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing certain measures being taken by Immigration Officials here in Thailand to deter foreign criminals from entering the Kingdom. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Thai brides flee as sweet talk sours. The thrust of this article goes a very different direction and I would urge those watching this video to go ahead and check out that article; lot going on in there; it's kind of an interesting scenario. Quoting directly: "Meanwhile, Pol Maj Gen Panthana Nuchanart, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau (IB) said strict measures were being launched to deter Chinese criminals from using Thailand as a base to conduct illegal activities. The measures were also needed to keep out Chinese fugitives planning to enter the Kingdom to escape legal charges."
I can say from personal observation that this is not simply the case with regard to possible Chinese criminals. Biometric protocols which have been put in place at Immigration checkpoints throughout Thailand, have resulted in the number of foreign criminals from many different countries entering Thailand to go down. We have seen a massive decrease in the number of foreign criminals being able to enter Thailand, it's just that has been the case, I have watched it happen over the course of the last 15 years, in earnest roughly the last five. And that last 5 years coincides with the rollout if you will of biometric, so fingerprint scanners, facial scanners even I think they have discussed although I have never actually seen one, retinal scanning at Immigration checkpoints coming into Thailand. As a result of that, I mean biometrics are very difficult to fake out if you will and as a result of this, it is a situation wherein Thailand has effectively, I don't know what the right word is for it but it has effectively sort of insulated itself from the entry of foreign criminals into her jurisdiction. As a result I think probably you are seeing, I think Thailand probably feels and Immigration probably believes that this is going to be an overall benefit to Thai Society moving forward. Now again, this isn't the end all be all. This continues to evolve and as it evolves we will certainly keep you updated on this channel in good time
