Thai Immigration Bureau "Denied Entry to About 7000 People"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Immigration denying entry to about 7,000 people. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Bangkok Airport Immigration speed and security to the fore. When I first read that, I was reading this article and I will get to the cite in a moment, the citation, but I remember thinking to myself "7,000? That's it, for the year?” I figured there would have been more than that.
That said, quoting directly: “The IB, (that's Immigration Bureau) has denied entry to about 7,000 people including those who have been involved in call centre scam networks. Their names are on the Blacklist and will not be allowed to enter the country." Yeah, so I would say before the year is out, we make double that number as high season becomes more acute and Thai Immigration has to deal with more people trying to gain entry to Thailand.
As I've discussed in other videos, biometrics and facial recognition technology at the airport, coupled with the fact that there are a lot of new officers with Thai Immigration, are resulting in heightened scrutiny and they are also resulting in the capture or the apprehension I should say, of a number of folks the past few years who prior to that point, were not being apprehended for problems at the border checkpoint. In a lot of these cases, it is people with forged passports or fake documentation and now the biometric system is showing, "hey, you are not who you claim to be in your passport; we have you in our system; we're now deporting you yet again." They may detain you before deporting you, whatever, but long story short yeah it really doesn't surprise me that we are seeing larger amounts of people seeing themselves detained and even possibly deported from Thailand, as we see the technological progress if you will, of the Immigration enforcement capabilities of the Immigration Bureau here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
