Thai Immigration Closing?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Immigration being closed, Monday June the 5th. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Coming weekend sees no booze and no Immigration. Quoting directly, and there is more in this article; we don't get into the alcohol side of things. If you want to know the alcohol issue go read that article on Pattaya Mail. Quoting directly: "Saturday June 3rd is Visakha Bucha Celebration, a holy day in the Thai calendar. All Thai Immigration offices and other public services will be closed on Monday June 5th and will reopen on Tuesday June 6th at 8:30 a.m."
So yeah, this is one of those examples of there is a holiday, it is falling on a weekend. They are doing a makeup holiday on the forthcoming Monday and folks will not be able to access Immigration facilities at that time. A lot of people ask "Well what happens? I have got to renew my Visa that day." Well probably a good idea to always be days, at least days ahead on renewing your visa to forestall exactly this from happening. That said, Immigration tends to give a grace period that results from these type of holidays but they are not thrilled about doing it. So if you are worried about this, well just a general piece of advice, general like rule of thumb, plan to do your Visa extensions days if not weeks in advance of the actual expiration. That's just a good piece of advice for exactly this reason. Immigration has holidays from time to time. They shut down and trying to deal with everything especially after that holiday can be a real sticky wicket. It can be really difficult to get that done and again you are also talking about the caseload as far as a day-to-day caseload, it tends to double right after a holiday. So on top of everything else Immigration is already going to be slammed and then here you are trying to get some extra consideration because your visa expired on the day that was a holiday. That's not the best place to be in. You don't ever want to be on your back foot when dealing with Thai Immigration. For this reason, it is always a good idea to deal with these things earlier rather than later.
