Thai Immigration Holidays in April?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of video of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Immigration holidays here in April. For those who are unaware, look April for Thailand is a lot like December in the West, okay. Just most of the month, not a lot going on in terms of "go get 'em business" kind of stuff, because we have Thai New Year and we have Chakri Day, which I'll get to in a minute. Another thing to bear in mind is at the end of the month, going into May, we have got a whole slew of holidays then too. All of this is stuff that has an impact on Immigration because they are going to be closed.

Now the question posed: "What happens if my visa expires on a date where Immigration is closed?" Their own internal rule stipulates that the next day, the next open day, it is possible to deal with whatever your Immigration matter is as if it was the day that you missed, if the day you missed was a holiday. Now that said, you never want to put yourself into a position where you are completely at Immigration's mercy and all you have got is a day to fix it, because if you go into the next day the overstay attaches, if you will; that's the way to look at it. Now different Immigration Offices apply these rules in different ways. I'm not saying there are hard and fast rules, and they have the discretion, Immigration Officers all have the discretion to make certain calls due to extenuating circumstances, okay. So don't view what I'm saying here as a completely hard and fast rule - there may be ways to deal with an issue - but that being said, you don't want to miss the date that you need to renew your visa, and you don't really want to put yourself in the position where you are basically operating at Immigration's grace by allowing you to basically continue your status; you don't want to put yourself in that position. So the reason for this video is to let you know that there are these holidays upcoming so you can plan accordingly.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from The Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Phuket Immigration to close for April holidays. Quoting directly: "Phuket Immigration has announced on its official website that its offices will be closed for the Chakri Memorial Day substitution day holiday on Monday, April 7, and from April 12 - 16 for the Songkran holidays."

So a lot of holidays coming up here in April. If you miss your renewal because your expiration date fell on a holiday, yes, the rule is you can deal with it on the next day, but you don't want to put yourself there, you want to deal with those things before a holiday. The other thing to bear in mind is at the end of this month of April, we are going to see a whole other slew of holidays at the beginning of May as well, so just have that sort of in the back of your mind moving forward.
