Is a Thai COE a Certificate of Entry or Eligibility?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Certificates of Entry but I recently read an article in the Bangkok Post titled: Ministry Vows Bangkok Special Tourist Visa Arrivals by October, that is bangkokpost.com. I urge you to check this out because this really doesn't have anything to do directly to what we are talking about but they used a term that I thought was interesting. Quoting directly: "After the Foreign Ministry approves all documents, it will issue a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), and STV, so that is Special Tourist Visa to tourists to let them continue with travel plans”. So I have always seen COE being referred to as Certificate of Entry but in this article they are referring to it as Certificate of Eligibility and perhaps there is a little bit of evolution going on with respect to this document.

For those of you who are unaware, we have made other videos on this channel specifically discussing the Certificate of Entry. In fact in one video we went ahead and put it on the screen and I urge you if you are watching this video and you would like to see that, go to the search function of our channel and search Certificate of Entry, you will find the video where we put up and showed folks what that look like. We redacted it as it was a client copy but showed folks what that looked like just for personal reference and to provide some insight for those who are looking to travel to Thailand.

But again as we have stated, this whole thing has been evolving in a very Ad hoc and quick manner. They have had to deal with this and by “they” I mean the Immigration apparatus as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they have had to deal with all of this on the fly so to speak. I think they have done well with it as best they could under the circumstances and we have seen this Certificate of Entry. Now where it is being issued in more of a tourism capacity maybe it is going to be more like eligibility to enter while you go ahead and deal with further travel arrangements.

So we will keep you updated on this channel. If this situation evolves we will make another video specifically on the topic of Certificates of Entry or perhaps Certificates of Eligibility as things progress.
