Thai Immigration Isn't The Only Inspectorate?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the inspection capabilities of Thai Immigration. As we have talked about in many other videos on this channel, Immigration has been placing stricter scrutiny on foreigners here in Thailand especially in the wake of the recent phenomenon of so-called 'foreigners behaving badly' where we have had a number of incidents involving foreigners really just getting completely out of control and not adhering to relevant law and having interactions with law enforcement, altercations with law enforcement. Long story short, it has been a bit more chaotic than I think anybody expected going into 2024, especially the latter half of the high season. Now we are going into low season and as I have discussed in other videos, Thai Immigration kind of uses what we call low season, although low season is starting to not be as low as it once was. As we discussed in a prior video, it looks like folks are staying in Thailand or coming to Thailand even in the off-season for other benefits, for various reasons I imagine, but at the end of the day, reasonable people can disagree on what those reasons are but the fact is they are coming and they are here in what we would have called in the past, low season.

In any event, what are we talking about with this video? Well as a result of going into low season and as a result of all of these incidents that have occurred - again "foreigners behaving badly' - Thai Immigration is increasingly taking a harder line especially with regard to enforcement of relevant Thai Immigration Law. But the question posed is are they the only ones able to inspect? And the answer is No. Royal Thai Police on their own, the Tourist Police as we have discussed in other videos, Provincial Police Departments have certain authority to inspect different foreigners operating here in Thailand and they may have Immigration implications. As we have discussed in prior videos also, the Labour Department has a function at the end of the day with regard to ascertaining whether or not foreign nationals are in compliance with Thailand's Work Permit Regulations.

So the thing to take away from this video and to understand is that one, Thai Immigration is the one that's primarily tasked, is the institution if you will that is primarily tasked with inspecting and making certain foreigners are in compliance with relevant Thai Immigration Law but there's overlapping jurisdiction with other agencies. Again as we noted, Royal Thai Police, standard Police if you will, the Tourist Police possibly, Provincial Officers and again the Labour Department itself. So all of these agencies have the ability to inspect foreigners either doing business or just maintaining their status here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
