Thai Immigration "Kept Busy" with Arrests in International Airport?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Immigration a lot busier in the international section of some of the airports here in Thailand. In the past, overstayers used to be - I've done videos on this before - if you sort of touched base at the airport, made it to the airport on overstay, you effectively okay, you paid the fine and you were allowed to leave. What we are starting to see is protocol changes with regard to this, and not for the better for the overstayers. What am I talking about?

Well, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Brit arrested for overstay, insulting officers. Quoting directly: "A 37-year-old British man has been arrested by Immigration Officers at Phuket International Airport for overstaying in the country and for insulting Immigration Officers performing their duties. The Brit was found to have overstayed in the country 130 days after his permission had expired, Phuket Airport Immigration noted. The man was taken to Sakhu Police Station where he was charged with the offense of "An alien who entered and stayed in the Kingdom after permission had expired" and for "insulting an officer while performing his duties," Phuket Airport Immigration confirmed."

This is more key to the point though, quoting further: "Immigration Officers at the airport have been kept busy, with two other people arrested while trying to clear Immigration." What are we talking about here? Well, this is a major change. In the past, if you were overstaying, and you made it to the airport and you were willing to pay your fine, they often would just let you go. Now what they're doing, especially seemingly down in Phuket, is they are detaining people, processing them through the system and probably blacklisting all of these people because if you are apprehended in Thailand, then it's an automatic 5-year overstay, excuse me, an automatic 5-year blacklisting, even for a day of overstay. Now again, in the past, you could sort of touch base at the airport and everything, it wasn't exactly 'no harm, no foul', you paid your fine and you left. But now more and more, we're seeing them detain folks in that position and we are actually seeing them, again presumably be blacklisted because they were arrested on overstay here in Thailand.

What am I trying to say with this video? What I'm trying to say is stay away from overstay and if you do end up in a situation where you are in overstay, it's probably a good idea to contact a legal professional before even going to the airport now, because that could lead to problems. You may want to gain some insight and guidance in to how best to proceed.
