Thai Immigration Lines Stem from "Foreigners Who Overstay"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing lines at the airport and whether or not this is an indirect result or stems from indirectly overstaying foreigners. What are we talking about?
I thought of making this video after reading a recent, well it's not an article, it's actually basically a press release from thailand.prd.go.th. This is basically from the Government Spokesman; I guess the Government organ if you will in Thailand for putting out press releases. Under the headline: Visa Runs Limited to 2 Under New Thailand Immigration Measures. Quoting directly, under the sub headline number 4: Cracking Down on foreigners who overstay in accordance with overstay regulations. Quoting further: "These measures may result in slightly longer screening times for foreigners at international airports during peak hours, but screenings will not exceed 45 seconds per person, and waiting time will not exceed 40 minutes. To ease congestion, Immigration Offices at all international airports will fully staff all counters while Thai Nationals can use automatic gates for faster processing."
So the point I am trying to make with this video is as I have discussed in other videos, Thai Immigration has been cracking down heavily on overstayers. They have also been applying heavy scrutiny to those who are using border runs in order to maintain effectively long-term Visa Exempt status; basically people that are not using actual visas. They are just basically coming in, getting whatever they can get on their passport be it 60 days, 90 days. We are being told, although it has not happened yet, they are going to roll back those Visa Exempt stamps and bring it back to 30 days at Entry. Again, that remains to be seen; we will keep people updated as that situation evolves.
But for now, the thing to understand is yes, there's heightened scrutiny on Border Runners; there's a lot more scrutiny and a lot more proactive enforcement if you will, with regard to overstayers and this will have a practical impact. Most notably, they say look 45 seconds screening time per person, no more than a wait of 40 minutes at an airport. It's stemming from the fact that there is heightened scrutiny from Thai Immigration here in the Kingdom Thailand.
