Thai "Immigration Officers Disguised Themselves as Electricians"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Immigration Officers here in Thailand disguised themselves as electricians. I have got to be honest, I'm getting kind of, I have a strange sense of pride in the Thai Police these days. There was one recently where the lion dancers, the guys that go up and down with the cymbals and they dance in the traditional sort of like Chinese Lion Dance garb. They went undercover as one of those to get a guy; I did a video on that. And look, they are getting resourceful at Thai Immigration; not just Thai Immigration but within the ranks of the Royal Thai Police.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from Pure Guava over on X, that's @pureguava10300, quoting directly: "Chonburi Immigration Officers disguised themselves as electricians to raid an Indian gang allegedly operating an illegal stock-trading office with monthly cash flow of 30 million Baht. On April 20, 2026, Colonel Napaspong  Khositsuriyamanee, Chief of Chonburi Immigration said he ordered investigators to inspect a house inside a luxury housing estate in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung after receiving reports of a large group of foreigners gathering there in suspected illegal activity. Authorities had monitored the targets for more than two weeks before concluding they were working illegally. On April 20, Officers posed as electricians and approached the property to make inquiries. Once inside, they revealed themselves and launched a surprise raid. Inside the house, Police found 30 Indian nationals. Nineteen were working downstairs on laptop computers, while 11 were resting upstairs. A 40-year-old Indian man identified as Mr. Sandeep presented himself as the boss of the group. Police seized 22 laptops, 49 Mobile phones, and multiple income-expense account books. Visa checks found most had entered Thailand on Tourist Visas since March. During questioning, Mr. Sandeep claimed he had been hired to supervise more than 30 Indian staff earning 15 to 20,000 Baht per month. He said they were trading stocks on the Indian market in crypto currencies while acting as admins to find in service customers. He claimed the operation previously been based in the United Arab Emirates but moved to Pattaya because of War conditions." Now that's an interesting development. I think more and more we are probably going to see more movement of people away from certain - especially Financial Centres that were in the Middle East - and possibly over to maybe Southeast Asia, but East Asia generally, or maybe other parts of the world but it is certainly starting to have ramifications.

That said, quoting further: "Police said they do not fully believe the statement and are now examining computers and financial evidence to determine whether it was a legitimate trading business or a scam gang defrauding fellow Indians into fake investments, before stealing the money. Account books reportedly showed monthly turnover of as much as 30 million Baht."

Real quick before getting into further analysis, my better half and I set up a restaurant here in downtown Bangkok. The name is Pancake Palace. As the name implies, breakfast anytime. Not just American style breakfast, although we definitely have that, but we also have an English breakfast on the menu. We also have American Diner style food; it's not just a breakfast place. We have hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chilli bowls, buffalo wings, hot dogs, chilli dogs. We also have grilled cheese, coke in glass bottles, much more. If you're interested, please feel free, check out the links below, we'd love to see you.

So that said, what we're dealing with here is interesting. And I have talked about this at length in many other videos which is Thai Immigration is far more proactive than we've seen very much in the past. I mean we're talking about levels of complexity and sophistication in their enforcement activities now. I mean they're dressing up as electricians; they are dressing up as Lion Dancers and things, and catching people - I think that was regular police, not immigration - but nevertheless, again law enforcement here in Thailand is getting highly proactive. If you're looking to come to Thailand especially to set up a scam network, and that's not saying that that's what this is. As the citation noted, there is further investigation on going. But that said if you're merely looking to come to Thailand just to work, you need to get your workout authorization in line because they will mount an entire undercover operation just to ascertain whether folks are working illegally in Thailand and arrest them and deport them. So the thing to take away from this video is not only is immigration serious about enforcement, but work authorization is exceptionally important when looking to come and work here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
