Thai Immigration Rescues 11-Year-Old from Overstaying Abusers?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, it appears Thai Immigration has rescued, and unfortunately for this 11-year-old, an 11-year-old foreign national, from abusers here in Thailand that also happened to be overstaying. So let's jump into this.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Finnish girl rescued from abusers in Sa Kaeo. Quoting directly: "An 11-year-old Finnish girl has been rescued from a house in this northeastern province, after she sent an email to police in her home country saying she had been confined and tortured by two Finnish adults. The Embassy of Finland in Bangkok requested help from Sa Kaeo police after the girl told Finnish police that she was being held at the house in Khlong Tai village in tambon Nong Takian Bon of Watthana Nakhon District, Amarin TV reported on Friday. Sa Kaeo Immigration Police, accompanied by representatives from The Finnish Embassy, Tourism Police and officials from the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, arrived at the house at 9pm on Thursday. The suspects’ passports showed that they had overstayed their visas by 2 years, having entered Thailand on November 15, 2021, with their last Visa renewal expiring on January 30, 2024 according to Pol. Col. Rung Thongmon, the Provincial Immigration Police Chief."

Now I expect that is the least of their issues with regard to problems that these folks are going to likely have with law enforcement, not only the Court System here in Thailand, but possibly I would presume, possibly back in Finland maybe, again depending on the circumstances of the case. I urge those who are watching this video, go check got that article in the Bangkok Post if you're interested. But yeah, tip of the hat, very much so, to the Police Officers, the folks from the Finnish Embassy, everybody involved with rescuing this poor child, and again not knowing the facts in the underlying circumstances, but again the issue of the overstay is obviously a minor one in light of the totality of all of this. But the reason for the video and the sort of teaching point here is look, it's this kind of thing that acts as what they can keep you “on the hook” if you will, basically under detention and presumably being deportable as well because Thai Authorities are probably going to want to get rid of these people as soon as they can. But the point being that the overstay itself is enough of a reason in order to detain and hold foreign nationals here in Thailand. So that in and of itself is dispositive as far as their detention goes.

That being the case, it's really unfortunate to, beyond unfortunate, if this child was subject to abuse at that age; I mean that's just evil, incarnate as I have discussed in other videos. Look, if you're looking to abuse children, find another country, just go elsewhere. Frankly, if it was up to me, jump off a building about 10 stories high so we can all just you know not have to put up with you, but don't come to Thailand. Again, I don't like to talk about how do we say, I don't want to discuss violence and things of that nature, even the implied threat of it, but oftentimes I find myself thinking to myself, and even saying sometimes, people that find themselves subject to the long arm of the law in this kind of context, I feel like just saying to them, "look, you should count yourself lucky the law got to you because if other folks here in Thailand got a hold of you knowing this about you, you are going to end up in a lot worse place than a detention centre or a jail cell.” And by that, I mean probably not shuffling around this mortal coil, let's put it that way.

That being said, again tip of the hat to Thai law enforcement here, immigration police, as well as tourist police and everybody involved in this.  I am very hopeful that this child can get on with their life with as little ramifications – if there was abuse that that they have endured - I hope they get on with it without a great deal of damage being done to them. But that being said, again tip of the hat to law enforcement here in Thailand. Stories like this and others we will certainly be keeping you updated with here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
