Thai Immigration Targets Overstayers
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing overstay here in the Kingdom of Thailand and folks who overstay their valid Thai Visa. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Phuket News, that is thephuketnews.com, the article is titled: Tourist Police clamp down on overstay, tourism-related crimes. "CHONBURI: Thailand's Tourist Police have launched a nationwide campaign to suppress tourism-related crime, including overstay and other violations of the law by foreigners in Thailand as well as crimes against them."
Yeah, I think that's a pretty fair assessment across the board. As we have discussed in multiple other videos over the course of the Emergency Decree which lasted from 2020, roughly March 26th if I remember correctly all the way up until October 2022, there was an Emergency Decree in place whereby folks, could citing exigent circumstances ask Thai Immigration for a favourable exercise of discretion to allow folks to remain in lawful status during the time that that Emergency Decree was in place.
In the aftermath of the Emergency Decree, we are back to status quo ante, the standard Thai Immigration Law applying and moreover I think it is safe to say that Thai Immigration Authorities are perhaps eager to do their job in enforcing Immigration Law and have been assiduously trying to track down overstayers. More and more with all the digital technology that is out there Thai Immigration Authorities have the tools at their disposal to more effectively find and deport and deal with, detain and deal with folks who are on overstay here in Thailand. Remember, overstay in Thailand could lead to a blacklisting; overstay in Thailand does mean you are going to end up paying a fine. It's also problematic even without the Blacklisting, the actual Blacklisting, you are noted in the system as being an overstayer which in and of itself causes extra scrutiny when trying to re-enter the Kingdom.
So the thing to take away from this video is if you are coming to Thailand and you are a foreign national, do your utmost to avoid going into overstay with the Thai Immigration System.
