How Many Foreign Nationals Has Thailand Admitted Since COVID-19?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing foreign nationals admitted to Thailand.
This is kind of a question that popped up as a curiosity when I was talking to a client the other day. Basically somebody asked, "How many foreigners do you think have been admitted since COVID-19 was a thing?" for lack of a better term; since this phenomenon began; since the shutdown, let's say the shutdown began.
Just for some insight, I kind of did some research on this. Again sometimes the exact numbers are a little bit difficult to find but a recent article from the Nation, that is the nationthailand.com, the article is titled: Immigration Police Sue Twitter User for Making False Claim and I urge those who are watching this video go check that article out. There is a lot going on in there that doesn't have anything to do with what we are specifically talking about here but every now and again you find a nugget of information that is unrelated to the overall theme of an article and I often like to of draw that out. Quoting directly from the article: "The Deputy Chief added that from" and they are quoting the Deputy Chief of the Second Immigration Police Division Police Colonel Cheungron Rimphadee and again let me quote again: "The Deputy Chief added that from April 4th to September 13th more than 49,000 Thais have returned home while only 12,000 foreigners have entered the country between July 1 and September 13th."
So that provides a good deal of insight as to how many folks, you know 12,000 between July 1 and September 13, so that is all of July, August, half of September; so I would say probably totally may be able to add another possibly 5 to 7,000 admissions, maybe 10,000 more admissions for a total of 22,000 admissions to Thailand as of, again this is speculation. The other thing is when do you count COVID starting? Because the Emergency Decree did not kick in until after they had already taken some measures where they weren't letting people in so it is a little bit of a gray area for how to figure that out but again 12,000 foreigners admitted from July 1 to September 13. You can sort of extrapolate backwards; I think probably 20,000. Again it is conjecture but it looks to me like it is a relatively safe number to infer based on those numbers.
So again, just kind of some clarification for folks out there who are curious about the numbers and the issues associated with Immigration to the Kingdom of Thailand.
