Thai "Modern Technologies" Used To Support Immigration Control?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well the recent discussion of use of new technologies in an Immigration context. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Visa free influx proves to be mixed blessing. Quoting directly: "Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau told the Bangkok Post he was concerned that some criminals will exploit the Visa-free policy to enter Thailand and operate illegal businesses here." Quoting further: "Modern technologies have been brought in to support Immigration Control and investigate the backgrounds of suspects arriving in Thailand. Long-distance, high-speed thermal imaging cameras have also been installed along the border to detect foreigners the country illegally via natural channels Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop said."

This is again kind of another video on an already kind of established theme here; we have discussed this at length. Things like biometric readers, issues associated with facial recognition. We also did a video recently talking about drones and body cameras even being used in an Immigration context. Long story short, Immigration is, to use a colloquialism from the US, they are upping their game; they are getting very much more technologically sophisticated. As we discussed in other videos, PBIX and the APPS protocols at Thai Immigration have resulted in the forestalling of undesirables and criminals from entering Thailand even before they can get on a plane to come here. Now we are also seeing an improvement in terms of technology being used at the checkpoints for Immigration which is having a substantial impact as well.

So the thing to take away from this video is one, Thai Immigration is increasingly serious about enforcing Immigration Laws and as we have discussed in other videos, this is very much a sea-change from the prior paradigm of Immigration being sort of an administrative function to being much more of a law enforcement function and the increasing use of technology, I think we are going to see ever-increasing effectiveness of Immigration basically enforcing their Immigration policies at both checkpoints and borders here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
