Thai Police Implementing "Crackdowns On Illegal Activities" By Foreigners?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Police looking at illegal activities by foreigners. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Tourist police ramp up safety measures ahead of Quarter 4 surge in Pattaya.

Now a couple of things to bear in mind here. We've had a spate for the last about 6 months of so-called 'foreigners behaving badly' and it was not good. Thai Law enforcement is not happy about that, and they are taking stringent measures to deal with these things. On top of that, we have had an influx of foreigners come in deciding that they are going to disregard Thai Law regarding employment as well as restricted occupations, even if they do get a Work Permit, and this is also something that is deeply concerning to the Law Enforcement apparatus here in the Kingdom of Thailand. That said, send quoting directly, again Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com: "In line with Government directives, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports introduced stringent measures to raise safety standards for tourists. The Tourist Police Bureau," bear in mind that is a Police Bureau, quoting further: "has launched robust initiatives to improve safety, including crackdowns on illegal activities such as unlicensed tour guides," we were talking about that the other day in a video. Yeah, they are serious about this; they don't like unlicensed tour guides in Thailand. Quoting further: "Sub-standard tours and exploitative sales practices. A targeted enforcement operation is scheduled from June 19th to 25th to address these issues."

So we are right in the thick of this as of the time of this video, and I don't think that that's the exclusive time that they are going to be cracking down. As we have discussed in other videos, new initiatives and protocols have been put in place for communication between the Royal Thai Police Headquarters and the Immigration Bureau wherein there is sort of a bureaucratic mandate if you will to keep abreast of these cases as and when they come up and following them to make sure that they are prosecuted.

So the thing to take away from this video and understand, Thais are increasingly prioritizing issues associated with foreigners working illegally. They view this as something that not only has a safety component but it also deals with insulating and protecting the local labour force. So look, at the end of the day, if you're looking to come to Thailand to move here, you really need to get into compliance with regards to Thai Labour policy, maintain work authorization if you are going to be working here. For those who are unaware of how to do that, it may not be a bad idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how to proceed.
