Thai Retirement Visa Insurance Is Available "Up To Age 75"?

 Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Retirement Visas, a very common theme on this channel. Specifically we are discussing the issue of insurance. As we have discussed in other videos, for those who are unaware, there is a difference between the O-A Retirement Visa which does require insurance and the O Retirement Visa which currently does not. Now there has been some speculation that some of these rules regarding the O Retirement Visa with regard to insurance may change. That remains to be seen. I largely believe that although we might see a rule change, I kind of expect that those who are already in the Visa system under that category will likely be "grandfathered in". Now that said, that is also some speculation on my part as well for again, there has been no change as of yet to Retirement Visa rules and we have yet to see what those changes could be but that is just my supposition based on prior information I have seen, as well as prior experience and information regarding the history of the Retirement Visa itself. That said, it shouldn't be viewed as the end all, be all with regard to the analysis.

Now the reason I thought of making this video is I was reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, regarding insurance and I thought that this was pertinent for Retirement Visas, whether in the future the O Retirement Visa changes terms and requires insurance which again as of the time of this video appears not to be the case; there's nothing to suggest that that should change. Again, we discussed the former Head of Thai Immigration, now Deputy National Police Chief, Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn did talk about the Retirement Visa some months ago or some weeks ago talking about how he thought that the requirements, the thresholds were too low and that things should change. Again that has not led to any concrete changes in the actual law itself but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.

I thought of making this video again after reading a recent article in the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya survivors: The insurance man for all seasons. Quoting directly: "According to Neng," (and Neng is apparently the insurance broker that is mentioned in this article. As usual I urge folks who are watching this video go check out that article in detail for more information, a lot of good insight in there.) Quoting directly: "According to Neng, Comprehensive Medical Insurance is available in Thailand up to age 75 and also beyond if already an existing customer. He even has on his file older men who have managed to enroll on a policy for the first time, although they are subject to detailed checks for obvious reasons." So interesting there. There may be Insurance routes available to retirees who are looking to retire in Thailand. Again, at present the O Retirement Visa does not have an insurance component; it does not require insurance as of the time of this video. Presently the O-A Retirement Visa does so again this may be more pertinent to O-A retirees but something to think about possibly in the future if rules should change regarding the O Retirement Visa.
