Thai Revenue Department NOT Seeking "Residency Status" Info?

Transcript of the above video:

I have done a number of videos here recently talking about scammers impersonating both the Immigration Department and the Revenue Department, calling up retirees to tell them that they need various information, basically spoofing them telling them we need information, in order to use it later probably to their detriment but they have been impersonating Revenue Department and apparently Thai Immigration it seems.

That said, I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya retirees targeted in latest in scam calls scandal. Quoting directly: "The calls asked them for personal details and bank account information allegedly to confirm their residency status." Again, this is all a scam; this is all nonsense. It's also the byproduct of allowing foreign interlopers to come into Thailand illegally and notwithstanding the provisions of the Restricted Occupations Act, allowed such folks to engage in tax consultation. This is the kind of blatant scams that arise from the type of fraud of allowing foreigners who have no business advising on Thai Tax policy to do so. One scammer sees another scammer and they realize, "oh this is a fertile field for scamming. I have my own little twist on the scam, I'll get into the action too." That is in my opinion what is going on here. The thing to take away from this video - I've done videos specifically for the retiree community - but anybody out there, if you get a call from anybody claiming to be the Tax Authorities or Immigration regarding your “residency status”, ignore it, if they are asking for personal information and documentation etc. You can go to Immigration - we have discussed this many times - and obtain a Certificate of Residence. Thai Immigration does not need to call you on the phone and ask for your relevant Tax ID documentation or information or any of your relevant information for a “residency status” check. They deal with that every time they deal with your Visa renewal if no other time. They also deal with it when they deal with TM-30, they also deal with it when they issue Residency Certificates; they also deal with it when they do 90-day reporting, so Immigration is not going to be contacting you. Meanwhile, the Revenue Department will not be doing that either. Notwithstanding the fact that I urge those who are watching this channel, check out the article, again Pattaya Mail, pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya retirees targeted in latest scam calls scandal. Within that article they go on to talk about how these people are also saying "oh we're making a list of people who are excused from tax, that's why we want your information." Don't listen to it. No Government makes a list of people who are not going to have to pay taxes; that's the last thing any Government is going to create. That would be like Santa only having a naughty list, okay? It's the inverse of that, but no Government is ever going to make a list of people that the Government says doesn't owe them money. The Government is always going to let people think they owe them money. They are never going to let that illusion ever be broken, so don't believe that nonsense.

Long story short, all of you out there be careful. Anyone calling you - and I urge those who are watching this watching this, read that article - there's a lot good information in there about phone preset - or what do they call that - the prefix on phone numbers to tell if something is a scam. I urge those who are watching this video, check out that article in detail as there is information on how to protect yourself from being scammed here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
