Thai Tourism Authorities Target "VIP Escorts"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing so-called “VIP Escorts”. What are we talking about here? Well I thought of making this video after reading a recent article in the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com. I urge those who are watching this channel, this video, go check out that article in detail. I am going to quote an excerpt here but very much there is more insight in the article itself, go read that for yourself. The article is titled: VIP escorts beyond state's scope. Quoting directly: "Authorities say VIP escort packages on sale in China are difficult to police as the transactions are made outside of Thailand. Thailand might ask Beijing for cooperation as happened with the crackdown on so-called zero dollar tours in 2016."

Now to provide some context, going back to 2016 and before, there was a time you would see, I mean I remember sitting in certain places in Bangkok, admittedly they were sort of tourism areas but where you would see busloads of Chinese nationals coming into Thailand as tourists. What turned out to be the case was there was an issue with so-called "zero dollar" tourism. i.e. the tourism operators were getting paid outside of Thailand. They had certain infrastructure inside of Thailand that they were using, but no money was really changing hands in Thailand and therefore Thailand didn't see any tax revenue from it. So, Thailand's infrastructure and the country were being taxed in a sense their resources were being taxed by all these tourists coming in but they weren't sort of even recouping or profiting from those tourists by picking up any tax revenue because they weren't basically spending any money in Thailand. This became a real problem, it became something of a scandal and Authorities sort of intervened and they dealt with it.

Quoting further: "Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchaitprakarn said if such services continue to be offered, he will order a related organization under the Ministry - such as the Tourist Police Bureau, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, or Thailand Privilege Card - to investigate and help prevent illegal tourist services."

So again, that may be on the horizon if we see this practice come back to the forefront again. We will certainly keep people updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
