Thai Visa Exemption For Russians Truncated?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Visa Exemptions for Russians here in Thailand. As we have discussed, going into this past high season the Thai Government took it upon themselves to relax a lot of Immigration rules pertaining to many nationalities including the Russians. One of the things that they had done in the past was allow for Visa-free access via the Visa exemption scheme here in Thailand. Now let's be clear, we are not talking about a Visa nor are we talking about a visa-on-arrival, we are talking about an exemption from the need to have a Visa, so basically someone just being stamped in in lawful status notwithstanding lack of a Visa.

I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Visa-free scheme for Russian visitors extended. Quoting directly: "The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a 60-day Visa exemption for Russian visitors to take effect from May 1 to July 31. Earlier the government had approved a maximum Visa-free stay of 90 days to attract Russian tourists during the high season. That program was to expire at the end of this month." So at the end of April, it's no longer possible for Russian nationals to get a 90-day stamp upon entry into Thailand but they are extending out until July 31 another program that will allow 60 days of lawful status.

So again, on the one hand they're extending the ability of this longer exemption period but they truncated the actual time period that's going to be allowed in terms of lawful status here in the Kingdom. So where it was once 90 days now it is 60 days and that is until at least July 31, 2024. It remains to be seen if they will extend it further past that but we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as that situation evolves.
