Thai Work Permits: Priority in a Time of Uncertainty
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Work permits, and the title of this video sounds almost like a sequel to a Transformer movie or something where I am sitting here saying "priority in times of uncertainty". What does that mean?
Well what it means is when everything locked down going back in 2020 and then they reopened in April to virtually no foreigners, the one category on the list when it initially reopened, and it was basically Thai only, maybe Permanent Residents there was one other category and that was Work Permit holders. So something that I think people don't really keep in mind and it is very odd and it probably seems odd to me because I have just gone through the pandemic in such an urgent and intense manner because we were dealing with it on the ground, but something that I don't think a lot of people remember is that look Work Permit status, when they reopened, and they were closed for about 6 weeks total, Thailand was just locked down totally, you couldn't get in or out basically, and then when they did reopen albeit just a crack, they just opened the door just a crack, Work Permit holders were on the list of people that could get back in.
So again I think that's a benefit that people often overlook and might overlook into the future as we kind of get back into sort of normalcy bias whatever you want to call it, that during this very hard time, during this unprecedented situation when Thailand basically shut its doors entirely, one of the few categories of foreigner that could return to Thailand were those that had some sort of Non-Immigrant Visa, but most importantly, work authorization, employment authorization, also known as a Work Permit here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
