Thailand "Only Takes in That Which Makes It Stronger"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, well if you are a Harry Potter fan, you already know what it suggests. Any readers of Harry Potter if you have watched the videos, the movies, Harry Potter; The Sword of Gryffindor they said “the Sword of Gryffindor only takes in that which makes it stronger".

In the books if you recall and in the films, the Sword of Gryffindor had taken in the Basilisk venom and therefore was able to destroy Horcruxes. So for those out here that are not at all interested in Harry Potter, I also found this insightful when I was reading a recent article which was in ASEAN NOW, that is aseannow.com, I believe they are quoting from NNT or translating from an article in NNT but the article is titled: Tax Cut to Attract Foreign Experts to Work in Thailand. There was a specific excerpt in here that I thought provided a lot of insight especially for potential expats, folks who want to live in Thailand. Quoting directly: "Director General of the Revenue Department, Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the highly skilled professional must be in the fields that Thailand falls short of and that they would be permitted to work anywhere in Thailand. He said the Department is considering a valid period for this tax cut." I made another video contemporaneously with this one where we go into the tax cut. They are trying to get it down to a tax rate, a sort of a flat 17% for so-called experts but that is not really the point of this video. The point of this video, I just want to go back actually quoting directly: "The Director General of the Revenue Department Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the highly skilled professionals must be in the fields that Thailand falls short of." I  thought that was really interesting and that is definitely something to think about if you are a so-called nomad or an expat out there and you have a specific skill set that is particularly unique or particularly in demand.

The reason for this video, I personally had seen this myself when dealing with certain aspects of the Immigration process. What came to mind was when I was dealing with one of the final interviews associated with my nationality, getting my Thai citizenship, I remember the interview and it was all in Thai. There are some folks out there who often wonder if I speak Thai. Yes I have a functional command of Thai; I would never call myself fluent. I personally think you almost have to be born in Thailand to attain a level at least of idiomatic fluency but yes I was going through my nationality interview and it was all in Thai and at one point they were talking about,  I do a lot of US Immigration, I have done a lot of US Immigration over the years they were asking about the fact that I do a lot of US Immigration and one of the officers interviewing me said, kind of offhand they said, "well we don't have anybody in Thailand to really handle US Immigration so it is probably good you are here." I just remembered that at the time because the paradigm of the interviewing officers was, you need to bring something to Thailand. That is not always necessarily a skill set. Clearly we have discussed in these recent months about these visas that have been approved in principle for high net worth individuals etc., Thailand is always looking to take in "that which makes it stronger". It is like that Sword of Gryffindor in Harry Potter. That is kind of what they are looking for.

So the point of this video especially again for prospective nomads and possible expats, if you have a skill set or even a business or a business model that is something that Thailand doesn't really have, that in and of itself may be a major selling point for later permanent status here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
