Thailand to Reduce Visa Exemptions to 30 Days?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing, well we're discussing the truncation of the Visa Exemption. Let me just jump into this. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Bangkok Post, that is bangkokpost.com, the article is titled: Shorter Visa-free stays on the cards. Quoting directly: "The Tourism and Sports Ministry insists the Government's plan to reduce Visa-free stays from 60 days should not impact tourism, as most foreign tourists on average stay for less than a month. Natthriya Thaweevong, permanent Tourism and Sports Secretary, said a new committee set up by the Prime Minister and chaired by the Permanent Foreign Affairs Secretary plans to revise visa measures, including 60-day Visa-free stays for visitors from 93 countries. She said the Tourism and Sports Ministry provided supporting research for this committee, which is expected to reduce the Visa-free stays to 30 days."

So as I get into in some other videos made contemporaneously with this one, there are also moves being made with regard to other Visa categories, most notably streamlining of Non-immigrant Visas and some things of that nature. But for purposes of this video, the thing to bear in mind is if you are coming in - I don't know when exactly this is going to be implemented - but I would expect sometime, if you read the article, they go into the fact that the caretaker government which we are currently under, before a new Parliament is installed or called, the caretaker government can actually do this before that happens, so it's possible we could see this coming online in a matter of weeks. So bear in mind, if you are coming in to utilize the Visa Exemption stamp coming into Thailand it may change sometime in the upcoming weeks from being a 60-day stamp to being a 30-day stamp, which you can get extended by 30 more days here in Thailand, so that's something to bear in mind as well.

That being said, exactly how this plays out and when it actually comes online remains to be seen, so we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
