Thailand Tales: Land Border Runs Not What They Used to Be?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are doing a Thailand Tales video; I haven't done one of these in a while but here we are. I just got done assisting a client in fact, and by the way if folks have been trying to email us, apologies. Last Friday I was not here, and I was dealing with Border Run stuff, did not have access to my phone so I was not able to interact with our info-desk girls to get emails back out to folks and get things scheduled last Friday, so sorry about that. We will get emails back out this Monday, well as of the time of this video it will have been Monday, but by the time this video airs, I don't know, maybe folks, it won't even matter probably by the time this video actually rolls out.
But point of fact I just want to be clear, Halloween, the 31st, I had to leave. I had to be up at the border with a client/friend who, we went to one of the land borders here in Thailand; it was just conducive to do it by land. Obviously, we are not going to be doing that at the Cambodian border, let's just say it's at another border, I am not going to go any great detail on that in this video. I do go into the details in our paid news service. If you are interested, email us, [email protected] and we will get you on the mailing list for the long-form content where I talk in detail about this stuff and I will get in detail about Border Running stuff, detailed in depth analysis regarding future and ongoing what I think are seeming to be trends popping up when it comes to Border Running generally speaking, and some thoughts of mine on what we are likely to look at in a post-border reopening, Border Run scenario between Cambodia and Thailand as well; I get into all of that in the paid new service. If you are interested in that, please email us [email protected] and we'll get you on the list for the long-form videos. Again apologies that I haven't gotten back. I usually deal with that correspondence more directly, although my producer here in the office also assists with the media account, and basically yeah, I wasn't able to get back to folks on that this past Friday because I was dealing with getting this person to the border and dealing with all of that.
Long story short, and the thing to take away from this video, land border running is changing. It's not like it once was at least as long as we are dealing with these border closures in Cambodia, it's not the same type of land border run environment that folks are used to. I expect especially people down in Pattaya, and the Eastern Corridor region, are seeing issues associated with Border Running being increasingly onerous and causing them some issues especially land border running that they didn't have in the past because the most utilized land border from either Bangkok or Pattaya would be Cambodia but now that Cambodia's borders are closed that's changing a lot. For Bangkok, yes, it's adding extra time, but not nearly the amount of extra time I think it's adding for people down in Pattaya, so that's something to be aware of.
Yeah, long story short, we were successful. We got over the Border, we got the person back in, stamped back in with the stamps that they needed to go ahead and deal with what they need to deal with to get on down the road, but the system is changing. By any metric, I think land border running here in Thailand is different. I expect it will likely be different even in the aftermath of the Border re-opening in Cambodia. One more thing as long as I am talking my book, I already plugged the media account, but I think it's worth pointing out, my better half and I did set up a restaurant here in downtown Bangkok which more and more I expect will be the staging point for land Border Runs associated with our firm. It's called Pancake Palace. Again it's in downtown Bangkok, it's near Bangkok Bank World Headquarters. Folks have wanted me to point out, we are about 3 minutes’ walk from Patpong, so folks that are interested in the night life and coming down here and want to swing by yeah, please feel free to do so. Links are in the description below. We've got breakfast anytime, again Pancake Palace as the name implies, breakfast anytime as well as American Diner style food: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chilli bowls and buffalo wings. If you're interested, again come on by Pancake Palace but again as noted earlier, we are looking to be using that as a staging point for Border Runs moving forward. And the point of this video is more and more Border Running is not what it once was.
For those who are a little bit overwhelmed about the prospect of border running, I especially expect that folks who are first-time users of the Destination Thailand Visa or using it more and starting to get more scrutiny associated with utilizing it to the point where you look like you are effectively living here, which was not the original intended purpose of that Visa, FYI, I expect Border Running is going to become a more pertinent issue for those people as well as others moving forward. And oftentimes utilizing a land border-run service is more optimal than trying to deal with the air for a variety of different reasons. For those that may have a complex situation where it comes to their visa, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
