Is There a Physical Presence Requirement for Thai B Visas?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing Thai Business Visas. I thought about making this video actually after watching a recent video from a friend and colleague who is currently up in Korea, Mr. Andrew Esquire who I think I have discussed before on this channel previously. But yeah he made a video talking about Malaysia My Second Home, a program we have discussed kind of tangentially to things that occur on this channel down in Malaysia. It is somewhat similar to the Thailand Elite Visa, the Malaysia My Second Home program allows for like a prolonged stay although it has certain other benefits associated with it like homeownership etc. and there are a fair few folks over the years who look into the Malaysia My Second Home Program. I would urge those who are watching this video who are interested in Malaysia My Second Home to go check out that video that Andrew made and I think you will be quite well informed by it.

The reason for this video is he brought up something that I was unaware of regarding the MM2H program which is that there is a 90-day physical presence requirement for those who wish to maintain their MM2H status in Malaysia. As a result of that requirement, that can be somewhat onerous so let's explain it real quick. According to that video that he was doing, the MM2H program requires those who want to maintain their status long term in that program, to be physically present in Malaysia for a minimum of 90 days per calendar year. Now the question posed by this video, in this video by myself I guess is, is there a physical presence required associated with Thai Business Visas for those living in Thailand? The answer to that is no.

Thai Business Visas and this is kind of one of the upsides of being a Non-Immigrant Visa, is that a Thai Business Visa does not require any minimum physical presence in Thailand beyond what is required to obtain an extension and maintain an extension if one ops to be in Thailand sort of full-time with extension status. Now you could be traveling in and out but if you want to physically extend your status, yeah you are going to have to be here physically at the time of application and at the time the review is completed associated with the Business Visa application adjudication. So the review period which is a month, you file for the extension and then you wait a month and you receive presumably the approval and then you move on with your life basically. Now do you have to wait that whole month? No not necessarily. You just have to be here to file it and you have to be here to obtain the approval on that request for that extension. Again, something to bear in mind with regard to Thai Business Visas is that no, there is not a physical presence requirement associated with Business Visas here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
