Is There A Thai "Family Visa"?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing is there such a thing as a Thai Family Visa. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment sent to us, actually this was an email sent to me, quoting directly: "I recently heard about a new category called Thai Family Visa. Could you maybe do a video on this and explain the requirements of whether it would be better for me?" So again, I don't make videos on specific folks so the person that wrote me that, I hope this video is insightful in a general sense.
But as we have discussed previously, there has always been for lack of a better term, a Thai Family Visa in the form of the O Visa which, the O Visa is the miscellaneous category and as we have discussed in the past, this may apply to those who are married to a Thai. Retirees also fall under O but they have their own regulatory structure with which they are dealt with but those who are married to a Thai O Visa based solely on the marriage along with certain other financial requirements, and it may also be possible to get an O Visa based on being the parent of a Thai child or for that matter in very rare instances, the child of a Thai parent. The O Visa was sort of designed to be miscellaneous and for that reason to have sort of a family context associated with it, if needed. Now that said, there is no specific category called a Thai Family Visa. There are certain family extensions for the Thailand Elite Visa. As we discussed in other videos, there may be the possibility of a derivative Visa under a Thai Retirement Visa. Again, those are going to be circumstantially dependent; they are not the easiest things in the world to deal with.
But specifically, is there a category specifically called the "Thai Family Visa"? None that I am aware of and I did some research on this because I was sitting there thinking, with all the changes going on in the Immigration System at present, maybe something happened I wasn't aware of. No, I haven't seen any new categories created but the thing to take away from this video is the fact that there is and always has been a Thai Family Visa component to the miscellaneous O Visa category and for those who are married to Thai or have Thai family, yes it may be possible to get a visa to come to Thailand based on one's family relationship with a Thai. For those who feel they may want to do that but feel that the overall system is a bit overwhelming and a little bit opaque at times, it may not be a terrible idea to contact a legal professional, gain some insight and guidance into how best to proceed.
