Things to Watch For at Thai Immigration in 2025?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing what possible things to watch out for going into 2025. As I get into in another video I made contemporaneously with this one, New Year is often when you do see changes at Thai Immigration. Oftentimes when they make policy shifts - not always by the way, this isn't a hard and fast rule - but it's not unheard of for us to see major changes at Immigration at the turn of the New Year. I get into that in further detail in another video.
The point I am trying to make in this video is just general things to look out for that I kind of have on my radar going into 2025. One is the DTV, touted as being the easiest visa and everything is hunky dory and it's super easy to use, it remains to be seen. Immigration itself has been silent on how they are going to handle it; it remains to be seen what the protocols are associated with that. I have discussed this before. My personal belief, what upsets, upsets is the wrong word, concerns me with regard to the DTV is I don't like the notion of there just being sort of an unfettered open door to all foreigners to be able to come and just be here for 5 years, and that's not what the DTV ever purported to be. It has been said from the outset, it's got these 6-month increments and adjudication later will be dealt with in these 6-month increments. Exactly how this plays out remains to be seen. I think the silence is deafening from the Ministry of Interior and Immigration with regard to the DTV, so exactly how this plays out we don't know. Meanwhile, there's all kinds of talk, I've done videos on this already of falsified and fake documentation associated with the financial requirements associated with the DTV. How exactly that's going to play out in 2025, again remains to be seen.
Now two other developments of major import that I won't get into so much in this video as I have made videos contemporaneously with this one on these topics as well, is one is the Electronic Travel Authorization. What exactly this is going to look like remains to be seen; again I get into that in another video. I talked in a recent video about the fact now it looks like E-Visas are the only option in 2025 and onward with regard to dealing with Consulates and Embassies abroad. So we are now seeing this digitization rolled out outside of Thailand through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' organs and that's looking completely digital now. Couple this with what is being termed the Thailand Immigration System, the TIS, which is going to couple up with both the E-Visa system and presumably the ETA although I don't exactly know how that's going to work, and we don't exactly know how this is going to work.
These are all probably pretty significant changes that we are going to see from Thai Immigration in 2025 and we will certainly be keeping you updated on this channel as this situation evolves.
