Timing Thai Visa Extensions
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the timing of Thai Visa extensions. I thought of making this video after reading a recent comment on a prior video, quoting directly: "Thanks for the info. Just a quick question: my 90 day O Visa for my Marriage Visa expires on June 28th. When should I go to Immigration to renew for my Marriage Visa?" Well I can't tell you what to do specifically. To be clear, I do bring up comments on this channel to provide videos that will provide general information. The purpose of the channel is not to provide case specific information. So I don't know the facts in your situation and everything associated with your specific Visa.
That said, generally speaking with regard to Thai Visa extension, in my opinion you want to get on it as early as you can but you can't just do it the day you arrive. So for example, if one arrives on a 90-day Visa in Thailand and on day one they say, "Yeah I want to go ahead and just get this out of the way, get it over with, I am going to go down to Immigration and try to get an extension". They are going to tell you NO because if it is not within a month of expiring, Thai Immigration doesn't really want to hear from you because they have got other things to do that they view as higher priority. They are not really in the business of extending visas if you are not getting closer to the expiration. So again if you arrive for example on a 90-day Visa, you want to go ahead and do the extension, you are going to have to wait around a number of weeks before it is going to be even possible to go ahead and apply for an extension of status here in the Kingdom of Thailand.
