Tracking Tourists in Thailand's "Sandboxes"?

Transcript of the above video:

As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the tracking of tourists who are going to be coming in to these so-called "sandboxes". These are these areas where you can come into Thailand for example Phuket is supposed to be one starting July 1 to be able to come into Thailand, if you are a vaccinated tourist you won't need to quarantine. The whole island will be your quarantine area at least for a couple of weeks it looks like but the question is, apparently a big issue with this has to do with tracking.

A recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Pattaya "Sandbox" Idea Still Needs a Whole lot of Detail. There was some good insight in this. Quoting from an excerpt: "Phuket is an island and checks on arrivals and quitters not that hard to organize. Pattaya of course, (and they are talking about this in the context of Pattaya being one of these "sandboxes") Pattaya of course has escape routes a-plenty and it is not clear how tourists would be restricted to Pattaya, Jomtien and Naklua districts. The Government has ruled out ankle bracelets to avoid the comparison with parole prisoners." Well that is probably a good idea. Quoting further: "The answer is presumably a locator app such as Thailand Plus being promoted by Thai Embassies abroad but currently without official follow-up once visitors arrive." So again, it is interesting insights there, interesting discussions as to where this possibly can go. It remains to be seen. A Pattaya "sandbox" is well off on the horizon. Phuket, Government Officials are still saying that the Phuket “sandbox” is going to open on July 1. That is not too far away.

Hopefully we will get a better idea of exactly how this is going to pan out; the details how it is going to work coming into these "sandboxes" when we see this beta-tested in the form of the Phuket “Sandbox”. We will certainly keep folks updated on this situation as the situation evolves.
