"Unauthorized Working" of Concern to Thai Immigration?
Transcript of the above video:
As the title of this video suggests, we are discussing the issue of illegally working in Thailand. I thought of making this video after reading a recent article from the Pattaya Mail, that is pattayamail.com, the article is titled: Thai lawyer downplays expat visa awards versus personal taxation worries. Quoting directly: "As regards Thai Immigration Authorities, their main concern is Visa related regulation and investigations into business fraud such as unauthorized working, use of nominees as shareholders, and illegal short-term renting of condominium units."
Yeah look, I've seen a major push in the last especially 90 days by Thai Immigration, and even in the past really less than a fortnight, I've seen real movement by Thai Immigration to go after unauthorized working in Thailand, people working illegally in Thailand. I know foreigners don't really get this. It is a concern to Thais. It's the fact that only Thais have the unfettered right to work in Thailand; that's what it comes down to. I know I see stuff online with, "oh they're worried about taking Thai jobs". No, it comes down to the unauthorized work of foreigners in Thailand; only Thais have that unfettered right.
Now the point to all of this is look, at the end of the day we are going into the lower season. Now there's always kind of a bump during sort of Songkran especially the week after Songkran, where we see a fair amount of business, and then it sort of slides off into what I have called the doldrums, although it is being referred to now more and more as the Green Season, because due to Cannabis legalization, we are seeing a certain cohort of folks remain longer into what used to be the low season just based on sort of demand for that.
That said, one thing that always does happen during this time of year is Immigration Authorities and Labour Department Authorities as well as just the police generally, will really start moving proactively during this time period to basically tighten up and clamp down on illegal working. We see it all the time, so I don't think we will likely see this change anytime soon. That being said, we will certainly keep you updated on this channel as the situation evolves.
